Job Description

Fruit Harvesters are the heart of our operation during the harvest season. This hands-on, physical role is responsible for carefully and efficiently picking fruit from trees or vines according to strict quality standards. The ideal candidate is a reliable, quick-learning individual who enjoys working outdoors as part of a team to bring in the harvest.

Special Offer

The first 5 to be hired ,will have their work permit and 2-year visa processing fees fully covered by the employer (normally $1,500 CAD value). This includes all government processing fees.

Cleaners' Responsibilities

  • Hand-Picking Fruit: Carefully and skillfully pick fruit (apples, grapes, peaches, berries, etc.) from trees or vines using hands or appropriate hand tools (e.g., clippers, shears).
  • Identifying Ripeness: Accurately select ripe, high-quality fruit based on specific criteria such as color, size, and firmness, as trained by the supervisor.
  • Using Proper Technique: Employ techniques that prevent bruising, scratching, or other damage to the fruit and the plant. This includes how the fruit is twisted or clipped from the stem.
  • Managing Harvesting Containers: Carry and use harvesting bags, buckets, or lugs. Empty these containers carefully into larger field bins, gondolas, or trailers to avoid damaging the fruit.
  • Navigating the Field: Move efficiently through orchard rows or vineyard trellises, which often involves walking on uneven terrain.
  • Using Equipment: Safely work from and move ladders (for tree fruit) or operate low-profile harvesting equipment (for some ground-level crops).
  • Maintaining Pace: Work steadily and efficiently, often as part of a team, to meet daily harvesting targets and goals set by the crew leader.
  • In-Field Sorting: Perform initial sorting in the field by separating high-quality fruit from damaged, diseased, insect-infested, or unripe produce.
  • Minimizing Waste: Handle all fruit gently from the moment it is picked until it is placed in the bulk container to reduce waste and ensure premium quality for the market.
  • Following Instructions: Adhere to specific quality standards for different grades of fruit (e.g., fresh market vs. processing) as directed.
  • Adhering to Safety Protocols: Follow all farm safety rules, including safe tool use, ladder safety, hydration practices, and awareness of surroundings (e.g., moving vehicles, equipment).
  • Reporting Issues: Alert the supervisor to any problems encountered, such as low fruit quality in a specific area, pest issues, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Field Maintenance Support: Assist with light non-harvest tasks as needed, which may include pruning, trellis repair, planting, weeding, or cleaning work areas.
  • Following Schedules: Be punctual and ready to work, often with early morning start times that vary based on weather and crop conditions.

Fruit Harvesters' Requirements

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Mobility & Balance: Comfort working on uneven, muddy, or slippery terrain in orchards and vineyards. Ability to safely work on and climb ladders (for tree fruit harvesting). No significant fear of heights.
  • Endurance for Outdoor Work: Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme heat, sun, cold, rain, humidity, and dust.
  • Reliability & Punctuality: Harvest is time-sensitive. Employers need workers who show up on time, every day, for the entire season. Consistent attendance is critical.
  • Time Management: Efficient and organized work approach
  • Basic Language & Comprehension Skills: Willingness to learn ,always smile and take direction
  • Positive Attitude: Willingness to learn ,always smile and take direction
  • French Speaking : Should be good at speaking french .
  • Flexibility: Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
